One of the greatest joys of an artist is to play, experiment, and stretch. Whether that stretching is through sculpting, size, or detail it offers a chance to explore.
My interest in human emotion drives me to explore the face and the human form. So much of what we say is said without words.
The large vases offer a way to experiment with size. They are thrown in two or three parts, then put together before I set out to carve and adorn them. As a way to explore shape (on the wheel), many of the smaller vases and covered vessels are thrown and then squared (and sometimes back to round at the top). The urns offer a way to be creative with different ways to fasten the lid to the vessel.
